Houston Softball Looking for Student Manager

    April 22, 2013

HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball program announced the signing Alexis Dunn and Tiffani McKnight to National Letters of Intent on Monday to join the team for the 2013-14 season.

Dunn, an infielder from Galveston Community College, is a native of Round Rock (Texas). She graduated from Stony Point High School where she was named the District MVP her senior year. The high school shortstop and future infielder for UH helped lead her team to the bi-district round of the state playoffs. Dunn also earned Offensive Player of the Year honors while a sophomore and junior

"Alexis will bring some much needed offense and athleticism to our team next year," said head coach Kyla Holas. "We have some big shoes to fill in the loss of Holly (Anderson - 3B) and we are looking for Alexis to help fill the void."

Dunn is batting .416 this year with 14 homeruns and 54 RBI in 52 games this year. She ranks No. 18 in the NJCAA in home runs and No. 29 in doubles (16). Dunn batted .303 for Galveston last year with eight steals and 20 runs scored while batting 23-for-76 in 36 games.

McKnight, an outfielder from Blinn Community College, is leading her team this year with 72 hits good for a team-best .486 batting average season thank ranks No. 14 in the NJCAA. She ranks second on the squad in home runs (8) and RBI (48) through 45 games this season. As a freshman at Blinn, McKnight batted .379 with nine doubles, two triples, nine homers and 51 RBI. The incoming junior graduated from Elkins High School in the Houston area and earned first team All-District honors while there.

"Tiffany is a true outfielder and will give us the reads and speed we are needing to really help support our pitchers and keep those extra bases from happening."

McKnight and Dunn squared off four times this year with Blinn and Galveston splitting the season series 2-2.

Both incoming student-athletes will have two years of athletic eligibility. The two transfers will join incoming freshmen Lauren Gunter (1B/C, Crowley, Texas), Jordan Rains (3B - Cy Fair, Texas) and Hayley Chamberlain (SS - Camarillo, Calif.) to comprise the 2013 incoming class.
