Softball Travels to Southern Miss for Conference Series

HOUSTON--The University of Houston softball team will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. to compete against Southern Miss in a three game Conference USA series, beginning with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The final game will be played on Sunday at noon.
The Cougars (21-20, C-USA 8-8) enter the series after sweeping Texas Southern in a doubleheader on Tuesday, 9-1 and 9-0. Sophomore Baillie Lott threw her first-career no-hitter in the 9-0 shutout.
Houston is 2-7 in away conference games. The Cougars lead the all-time series against Southern Miss 21-11.
Senior Elaina Nordstrom has a team-high batting average of .364, while senior Laurie Wagner has a team high 36 RBI. Senior Katie Bush has a batting average of .336 and 10 stolen bases this season. Senior Jessica Valis has 138 at-bats and a team-high 43 hits.
Lott has a record of 12-8 with an ERA of 2.86 with 79 strikeouts.
Southern Miss enters the three game series with the Cougars after sweeping a doubleheader against Northwestern State, winning game one, 8-3 and game two, 2-1.
The Golden Eagles split the conference doubleheader against UTEP and tied the third game due to rain and travel arrangements.
Megan Hill leads the Golden Eagles in the batter's box in many categories, batting average (.421), doubles (13), triples (4) home runs (9), RBI (41) and walks (41).
Kristin Pilgrim tops Southern Miss in at-bats with 133, and is tied with Hill with the team-high nine home runs. She has 37 RBI this season and six doubles.
In the circle, Courtney Ramos has a record of 12-10, with an ERA of 2.38 and 112 strikeouts. Samantha Davis is10-8 with 70 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.42.

Following the series against Southern Miss, the Cougars will play a doubleheader against Louisiana-Lafayette in Lafayette, La. at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
Houston will play its final conference series against Marshall at Cougar Softball Stadium with a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. The program will honor the six seniors in honor of Senior Day. The final game will be played at 1 p.m. on Sunday and will be nationally televised on CBS College Sports.
