Houston To Dedicate Softball Complex
May 2, 2001
The University of Houston will hold a formal dedication of its new softball facility on Saturday, May 5, before the Cougars take on Conference USA rival UAB at 1:00 p.m. This will be Houston's first game on the new home field since the start of the inaugural 2001 season. There will be no charge for admission during this weekend's softball festivities.
The facility, which is located adjacent to the Tom Tellez Track on Elgin and Scott streets, will serve as the home of UH's newest team. The construction of the facility was made possible through the generous donations of UH alumni John and Rebecca Moores.
In addition to the dedication festivities, the Cougar Club, in conjunction with the Houston Alumni Organization, the Houston Athletics Foundation and head women's basketball coach Joe Curl, will sponsor a free tailgate BBQ near the Tom Tellez Track which will begin at 11:00 a.m. The dedication ceremony will begin at approximately 12:45 p.m. with remarks from UH President Arthur K. Smith, Athletic Director Chet Gladchuk, Board of Regent Bo Smith and head softball coach Kyla Holas. First pitch will be thrown out by the University's first lady, June Smith.
