May 7, 2013
HOUSTON - University of Houston's Haley Outon has been named to the 2013 Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced Tuesday.
The junior catcher carries a 3.72 GPA while majoring in health and was also named the team's academic MVP earlier this month at the University of Houston's Cougar Choice Awards. The native of Pflugerville (Texas), Outon has been a C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll selection every year she has been on campus.
On the field, Outon leads the team and the league in home runs (15), RBI (59), total bases (113), slugging (.743) and walks (40). She became only the sixth player in NCAA history to launch two grand slams in a single game en route to being named C-USA Hitter of the Week and establishing a school record with eight RBI in a game. Outon took home her second Hitter of the Week award the following time out with a pair of walk-off hits against Tulsa.
Outon is one of three Cougars to start every game this season and has caught nearly every inning all year. This is the first time Outon has been named to the league All-Academic Team.
