Houston Faces Memphis To Begin C-USA Softball Championships

HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team opens up the 2013 Conference USA Softball Championship against Memphis (24-35, 8-16) on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Tulsa, Okla.

Houston (38-17, 19-5) enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed finishing a half a game behind the UAB Blazers for the league title. The winner of Houston and Memphis (No. 7) face Tulsa/UCF on Friday at 5 p.m.

All games leading up to the final will be shown live on the C-USA Digital Network http://www.conferenceusa.com/allaccess/ with Saturday's championship (11 a.m.) broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.

UH won 6-5 over Mississippi State on Monday evening to close out the regular season after taking the series win over UAB last weekend. Senior Julia Pecina had a memorable birthday in her last game at home going 2-for-3 with a home run a double to give UH the win.

Haley Outon has been busy wrapping up finals while cleaning up in the academic accolades. After being named the Team Academic MVP last week at the Cougar Choice Awards, Outon was named to the C-USA All-Academic Team and the Capital One Capital One Academic All-District squad.

Houston is 15-14 in C-USA postseason play with a tournament title in 2007.

Houston holds the 19-6 edge in the all-time series and won 9-1 (2008) the only time these two teams met in the tournament. The Cougars have won six straight against the Tigers including sweeping the season series this year winning 6-0, 6-0 and 7-4.

The 2013 Championships are hosted at the at the Collins Family Softball Complex on the University of Tulsa campus. All-session tickets can be purchased for $20 (adult) and $10 (youth). Single session tickets are available for $10 (adult) and $5 (youth).
