Softball's Bush and Valis Earn Conference USA All-Academic Honors

IRVING - Katie Bush and Jessica Valis were selected to the inaugural edition of the Conference USA All-Academic Team Wednesday afternoon as announced by the league office. The league's All-Academic Team consists of 14 players that were voted on by the conference sports information directors. Bush earned a C-USA Academic Medal and Academic Honor Roll accolades for the second straight year on April 18. The Brenham native has a 3.87 GPA and is majoring in kinesiology. She is second on the squad with a .297 batting average, 47 hits and 11 multi-hit games. Valis picked up C-USA her second consecutive C-USA Academic Honor Roll selection on April 17. The Shiner native sports a 3.26 GPA in consumer merchandising and science. She headlines Houston in seven offensive categories, including batting average (.386), hits (68), runs (36), multi-hit games (22), doubles (9), triples (7) and slugging percentage (.551). The league office will announce the All-Conference USA Teams Wednesday evening as part of the end of the season banquet. Houston returns to the diamond as the No. 1 seed in the Conference USA Championship presented by Coca-Cola on the UCF campus. The Cougars face the winner of the UCF-Marshall game 5:30pm CDT Thursday.
