Softball Returns to USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll

May 9, 2007

STARKVILLE, Miss. - After a two-week hiatus, the University of Houston softball team returned to the receiving votes category of the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll racking up a season-best 19 votes Wednesday afternoon as announced by the NFCA office.

"There isn't a lot of separation from number 21 to number 30," head coach Kyla Holas said. "It depends on who gets the timely wins from week to week. We've proven over the entire season that we deserve to be in the conversation."

The Cougars (39-16, 20-4 C-USA) have received votes on six different occasions this season. Houston tallied two votes (April 18) after recording five votes (April 11). Houston also notched a pair of votes (March 21) before totaling 11 votes (March 7) and garnering eight votes (Feb. 14).

Houston returns to the diamond as the No. 1 seed in the Conference USA Championship presented by Coca-Cola on the UCF campus. The Cougars face the winner of the UCF-Marshall game 5:30pm CDT Thursday. A live audio webcast in addition to live stats via GameTracker will be available on UHCougars.com for all tournament games.
