Softball Earns Third Consecutive NCAA Championship Bid

HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team (40-18) earned its third consecutive NCAA Championship bid and will travel to the to Austin Regional this Friday at 3 p.m. on ESPN3. Houston faces South Carolina (32-23) with host No. 4 Texas (44-8) and Army (34-24) rounding out the field.
The bid is Houston's sixth overall (2004, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013) making the first time that UH has advanced in three straight seasons. Houston has posted a 4-2 record in Austin over the past two trips advancing through the region in 2011.
Houston took runner up at the Conference USA Championships its last time out, falling 3-1 to Marshall in the final. UH finished as the second-place team within Conference USA (19-5) during league play and enter the tournament playing with an 8-2 record over its last 10 games and 5-3 mark against tournament-bound teams during the stretch.
Four Conference USA teams qualified (Houston, Marshall, Tulsa, UAB) for the NCAA Tournament.
Houston is 2-0 all-time against Army, 0-1 against South Carolina and 4-18 against Texas with a 1-1 record in postseason play.
