HOUSTON - Haley Outon and Katie St. Pierre from the University of Houston softball team both landed on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region Team, the organization announced on Thursday afternoon. This is the second year in a row both Outon and St. Pierre have represented Houston on the All-Region squads as both student-athletes were placed on the third team.
Outon, a native of Pflugerville, Texas, led Houston and the American Athletic Conference in home runs and RBI this past year. The senior catcher started all 53 games as the Cougars backstop and played every inning behind the plate. She batted .308 while drawing 42 walks, including 11 intentional passes, while reaching base at a .477 clip. The program’s all-time leader in home runs and RBIs is the third Cougar to earn NFCA All-Region honors three times during her career.
St. Pierre started all 53 games in centerfield and logged nearly every inning in the middle of the outfield while batting a team-best .391. The sophomore from Flower Mound, Texas ranks second in the league in batting average, No. 3 in on base (.489), No. 4 in hits (59). This is the second time St. Pierre has earned All-Region honors after being named to the NFCA second team last season.
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. The NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at approximately 4 p.m. CT on Wednesday, May 28, via NFCA.org.
Houston opens up the Waco Regional against No. 18/19 Tulsa on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
