AUSTIN, Texas - Haley Outon and Holly Anderson represented the University of Houston softball team on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Midwest All-Region Team as the NFCA announced Thursday afternoon.
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to one of three 2012 NFCA Division I All-American teams. Outon was a First Team selection while Andrson appeared on the Second Team.
Outon landed on the All-Region First Team after ranking No. 6 in the nation in home runs and tying an NCAA record with a home run in six consecutive games. The Pflugerville, Texas, native was an All-Conference USA First Team selection as well after belting a program-record 22 home runs this year. The catcher also set a school record for RBIs in a single season with her total of 63. Tied with teammate Holly Anderson for the team lead in batting average (.374), Outon earned her first NFCA All-Region Selection this year.
Anderson was also a first-time NFCA All-Region honoree as the Cougars leadoff batter set the tone for a Houston offense that ranked first or second in 13 stat categories among Conference USA teams. The Dickinson, Texas, native was second on the team in home runs (10) and steals (19), providing a potent mix of speed and power at the top of the UH lineup. The third baseman also landed on the C-USA First Team and tied with Outon for the team lead in batting average (.374).
