HOUSTON - Houston's Holly Anderson, Haley Outon and Katie St. Pierre were named to the 2013 NFCA Central All-Region Team the organization announced Thursday. All three student-athletes earned Second Team honors with Outon and Anderson serving as repeat selections from 2012.
Outon, the 2013 Conference USA Player of the Year, led the league in home runs (15), RBI (60), slugging (.731) and walks (41) while ranking second to UH teammates in doubles (14) and on base percentage (.462). In a single season, the junior set the program's career intentional walk record by collecting 10 totally free passes. The Pflugerville (Texas) native started all 58 games behind the dish, bringing her consecutive start streak up to 137, while opposing teams attempted only 25 steals the entire year.
Anderson, the lone senior of the three, paced the team in batting average and finished second in C-USA in batting average (.374). Anderson also finished second in the league behind teammate Outon in home runs (12) RBI (50) and total bases (115). The native of Dickinson (Texas) led the league with 15 doubles en route to tying a school record.
St. Pierre made an immediate impact for the Cougars in centerfield as the freshman helped set the pace for an offense that led the league in seven team categories. St. Pierre set a school-record with a 21-game hitting streak and a freshman record of batting .367. Hailing from Flower Mound (Texas), St. Pierre also earned First Team All-Conference and All-Freshman league honors.
Houston has had multiple All-Region selections three straight years. All three now student-athletes are now eligible for NFCA All-American accolades.
