Akron Racers Sign Haley Outon

    May 22, 2014

HOUSTON - Akron Racers GM, Joey Arrietta, announced on Thursday the addition of Houston's Haley Outon to the Racers roster for 2014 squad after a memorable four-year career with the Cougars.

"Haley is solid behind the plate and she gives us a number of options for our offensive lineup, "noted Arrietta. "Outon definitely fits into the Racers offensive game plan for 2014."

Outon was named the 2013 Conference USA Player of the Year and is Houston's all-time leader in home runs (59) and RBI (199) establishing both career-best marks during the 2014 season for the UH program. A four-year starter behind the plate, Outon and her sister Diedre are the only two student-athletes in school history to attend the NCAA post season all four years during their career.

She became the fourth player in program history to be named an All-American following her 2012 season and is the first to be named to the Academic All-American team.

The native of Pflugerville, Texas, has been selected to the all-conference and NFCA All-Region teams each of the past three seasons while hitting over 16 home runs and 50 RBIs every year. Outon started 236 overall games for Houston including 196 straight, all at catcher.

Akron begins the season this May 29 against the Chicago Bandits.
