Lady Cougars Softball Nabs Pair of Top JUCO Recruits
HOUSTON, Texas (July 18) - University of Houston's women's softball head coach Kyla Holas has announced that Leslie Seay and Tiffany Rayburn, two former Navarro College stars, have signed to play with the Lady Cougar softball program for the 2001 inaugural season.
Seay, a 5-6 second baseman at Navarro is a two-time National Junior College Association a third-team All-American selection who led her Bulldog team with a .394 batting average. Seay also recorded an impressive 73 hits, seven doubles, five triples, and 15 RBI in her last season at Navarro.
Rayburn, a versatile athlete who played both first and third base for Navarro, ended the season batting .313 with 21 RBI. Rayburn also proved to be an exceptional student-athlete earning 3.96 GPA during her junior college career and receiving numerous academic accolades such as the NJCAA Academic All-America Award, the NFSCA All-American Scholar Athlete Award, and the NJCAA Distinguished All-American Award.
Both Seay and Rayburn helped Navarro to a combined 93-21 record in their two years at the junior college. The Bulldogs finished the 2000 campaign with a 42-10 overall record winning both the Eastern Athletic Conference championship and the NJCAA Region XIV championship. Navarro also advanced to the NJCAA World Series where they fell to Indian Hills Community College 4-1 in the first round.
