Houston Softball Awarded Team Academic Excellence Award
July 23, 2014
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team has been recognized for their hard work in the classroom with the 2013-14 Team Academic Excellence Award, American Athletic Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco announced Wednesday.
The Cougars earned a 3.38 spring semester GPA, the highest collective grade-point average in the conference against other softball teams. Selections were made by the conference’s Academic Affairs Committee.
“I am excited for our program to continue academic success in The American. This is a testament to our Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) department especially Lori Selzer and our athletes,” head coach Kyla Holas said. “This proves the girls hard work and dedication to their studies during the season. Our system really allows for huge academic success that will help our athletes in the future, even beyond softball.”
The winners were chosen based on the 2013-14 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution’s roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
