July 25, 2013
HOUSTON- The University of Houston softball program earned their second consecutive Conference USA Sport Academic Award the league office announced Thursday afternoon.
The C-USA Sport Academic Award is given to the team in each conference-sponsored sport with the highest GPA for the academic year. This is the second time Houston Softball has earned this award.
"I am extremely proud of our team who have established this environment and pride in both athletics and academics," Holas said. "These academic awards should go to Lori Selzer, our academic counselor, and her staff. They are an integral part of our program and are a big part of what we are trying to accomplish here - success in the classroom and on the field."
Houston compiled a 3.53 cumulative team GPA that bettered the record mark of 3.50 set last year. Thirteen members of the team earned school honor roll distinction while the entire team earned C-USA Honor Roll status. Junior Haley Outon, the 2013 C-USA Player of the Year, represented Houston as a C-USA All-Academic Team selection for the first time in her career.
