HOUSTON (july 26) - University of Houston Head Softball Coach Kyla Holas has named Howard Dobson as an assistant coach for the Cougars' new NCAA Division I softball program that will make its debut in the spring of 2001.
Dobson will assist Coach Holas in forming all areas of UH's newest varsity program that was first announced in the fall of 1999. He joins Houston after serving two years as an assistant coach at Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond, La. At Southeastern Louisiana he primarily worked with the hitters and the team's defensive schemes, but also has a wealth of experience in recruiting, scheduling, fund raising and team travel.
Prior to working at Southeastern Louisiana, Dobson was a co-head coach of international teams in Regensburg, Germany and Apeldoorn, Holland. The 1998 graduate of McNeese State University worked with the softball program at his alma mater as a volunteer assistant.
