HOUSTON - As the second week of practice comes to a close, the University of Houston softball team prepares for its first tournament of the fall season. The Cougars head to Sugar Land, Texas Saturday Sept. 26 for the College Classic.

"With only two weeks to prep for the tournament with such a young team, we have been trying to make sure we have touched on all the main things before we play," head coach Kyla Holas said. "We will look to use the games this weekend to fine tune our adjustments and team focus for the following weeks of practice."

The Cougars face San Jacinto College at 1 p.m. on Saturday followed by a 3:30 p.m. matchup against Texas State. Last year, Houston participated in the Sugar Land Round Robin and won three of four games, including a 4-2 victory over Texas State.

UH closes out the weekend on Sunday when the team squares off against Blinn College at 10 a.m. and then Galveston College at 12 p.m.

The Cougars return seven letterwinners from last season and welcome two transfers and five true freshmen.
