Kait Chura begins her first year as a volunteer assistant coach with the University of Houston swimming and diving program for the 2010-11 season.

Originally from Bozeman, Montana, Chura comes to the UH program after competing for four years at Rice University. While at Rice, Chura's top two events were the backstroke and individual medley. She will assist in the coaching efforts of all strokes at Houston.

While a senior on the 2010-11 squad, Chura helped Rice claim their first Conference USA swimming title by advancing to the finals in three events.

She set the Rice Aquatics Pool record in the 400 IM in 2009 (4:28.54) As a freshman, she was named the team's Rookie of the Year.

In addition to her success in the pool, Chura was a decorated scholar athlete by being named a Rice University Honor Athlete and a Conference USA Honor Roll recipient.

Chura studied art (film) and sports management and will be attending classes this year as she divides her time between the classroom and the pool.

A 2007 graduate of Bozeman High School, Chura was an outstanding high school swimmer with a combined nine state titles (seven individual, two relay teams). Her high school won the state championship twice during her time there.

She also competed for the Bozeman Swim Club and was an All-American in the 200-IM. For her accomplishments, she was named the Speedo Swimmer of the Year for Montana.

Her full name is Hannah Kaitlyn Chura and she has a sister, Haley, who was on a national championship swim team at the University of Georgia. She is the daughter of Jerry and Elizabeth Chura. Her mother was nationally renown downhill skier, ranking in the Top 20 in the United States.

Kait is single and lives in Houston.
