UH Leads Tulane in Quad Meet Action
Jan. 31, 2014
HOUSTON - The University of Houston swimming and diving team leads Tulane and trails Rice and LSU halfway through the weekend’s quad meet. The four teams completed 10 events on Friday with nine more scheduled for Saturday’s conclusion held at the CRWC Natatorium.
“Our relays did a great job today and have really done so all season,” said head swimming coach Rich Murphy. “We’ve really stressed the importance of the relays this year and our relays were the highlight of the meet. I liked how we supported each other during relays and brought a better effort to those relay swims. That’s the mark of a great team - the whole being greater than the sum of its parts.”
The Cougars swam near-season best times in both the 400 free (3:32.08) and 200 medley (1:46.83) relay placing fourth and fifth, respectively.
Senior Heather Winn earned Houston’s top finishing spot in the pool with her fourth-place showing during the 200 free (1:52.67).
“We’re where we need to be with our mindset. We’re a few weeks out from conference and it’s not the point of the year where we need reminders. Being consistent and being on point throughout the meet is an opportunity for tomorrow.”
Houston, LSU, Rice and Tulane conclude the quad meet tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m. with Senior Day Ceremonies taking place before the start of the day. The Cougars will honor their five seniors in Colleen Donovan, Lizzie Justice, Laykin Lowry, Krystan Morrell and Heather Winn.
