Lonnegren, Burgess Take Top Two Places in 3M

HOUSTON- Julia Lonnegren won the 3M diving event and was joined on the winner's stand by runner-up Natasha Burgess on Day 2 of the Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championships. Lonnegren (361.75 ) and Burgess (344.75) both set personal bests as a Houston diver claimed the fourth-straight 3M title under head diving coach Jane Figueiredo. "They were absolutely fabulous and pushed each other until the end," said Figueiredo. "We talked about that and how we wanted to win big and we did that tonight." The event heated up when Burgess brought the crowd to their feet with scores above 8.0 but the junior Lonnegren nudged past the freshman on the very next try. "The freshman set the pace and Jules just stayed cool and confident and did the same thing she always does. We needed them to set that really high standard for the NCAA Zone Meet coming up and we did that." Over on the pool, the Cougars medley relay team edged East Carolina for a third-place finish to score 32 points for the squad. Heather Coutts, Beccy Hillis, Kim Eeson and Moira Fraser swam a season-best 3:45.66 in the event.
Heather Winn swam a personal-best 4:53.94 to finish in fourth-place to lead the 500 free group who that three swimmers inside the top 11. Laykin Lowry and Lizzie Justice finished eighth and 11th. Overall Houston has scored 193 points through seven events for a third-place standing. UP NEXT RESULTS
