    HOUSTON - University of Houston diver Natasha Burgess took runner up in the 3M diving event during the first day of competition at the American Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. Houston stands in in fifth place scoring 66 points while host Louisville leads with a score of 122 as there are three days left of the meet held at the Ralph Wright Natatorium.

    Burgess turned in a score of 310.70 for her third-straight runner up finish at a conference championship in the 3M event. The junior diver finished ahead of freshman teammate Taylor Olanski who earned the third place finish putting up a 306.65 performance. Sophomore Danielle Shedd finished as the runner up in the consolation finals compiling a score of 265.35.

    Houston's 800 free relay team (Heather Winn, Maya Owens, Laykin Lowry and Mackenzie Alspaugh) placed sixth during the opening race of the competition swimming a season-best time of 7:26.16.

    The Cougars return to the pool tomorrow with the prelims starting at 10 a.m. followed by the evening's finals. Thursday's events include the 1M, 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and 200 free relay.
