    WEST COLUMBIA, Mo. - University of Houston divers Tania Cagnotto and Anna Kiess placed 1-2 on the 1-meter springboard Friday during the NCAA Zone D meet at the Mizzou Aquatics Center.

    Cagnotto, who swept all three diving events at the 2006 Conference USA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship on Feb. 22-25, won the event with 580.45 points.

    Kiess, the 2006 NCAA national runner-up on the platform, was a very close second with 575.40 points.

    With their performances, both Cagnotto and Kiess qualified to compete in all three diving events at the 2006 NCAA Championships, hosted by Purdue on March 16-18 in West Lafayette, Ind. Four other divers will earn spots from the NCAA Zone meet and qualify for the NCAA Championships.

    They became the 20th and 21st divers under head coach Jane Figueiredo to qualify for the nation's top collegiate meet during her 16-year tenure at UH.

    Redshirt freshman Anastasia Pozdniakova finished sixth with 550.10 points, while senior captain Stephanie Mannella recorded 449.20 points to finish 15th.

    The NCAA Zone meet continues at 1 p.m., Saturday with the 3-meter event and wraps up at 10 a.m., Sunday with the platform at the Mizzou Aquatics Center.
