HOUSTON - University of Houston diver Julia Lonnegren qualified for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships after her performance at the NCAA Zone Diving competition held at the University of Iowa this past weekend.

Lonnegren, the Forolund, Sweden native, had her best showing in the platform event as the junior took second overall with a 545.55 score. Lonnegren had the highest score during the preliminary round with a score of 288.45.

The junior also had top marks in the 1M competition as she placed seventh with her 559.95 score.

By virtue of qualifying in one event, a student-athlete qualifies for all three diving events at for the NCAA Championships.

Natasha Burgess just narrowly missed out on qualification as the freshman performed admirable in her first go at the Zone competition. Burgess finished ninth in the 3M with a 589.35 total.

This will be Lonnegren's second trip to the NCAA meet as she advanced to the championships last year.

Lonnegren and head diving coach Jane Figueiredo will depart for the NCAA Championships in Auburn, Ala. on Tuesday. Media availability for the two will be Monday 1:30 p.m. at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Natatorium.
