HOUSTON - The University of Houston diving program wrapped up their 2012-13 season on the third and final day as host to the NCAA Zone D Diving competition.
Julia Lonnegren missed the finals of the platform by one place and two points as she took 13th (230.25) overall in her final time representing the Red and White. The senior made the finals and placed eighth overall in both the 1M and 3M but fell just short in her specialty event, the platform.
Danielle Shedd had an unfortunate start as she hit her foot on 5M board during her first dive. The freshman showed courage by trying to finish her list despite the injury, but she was forced to withdraw after a solid 40.8 score on her next dive.
Only seven divers were given bids to a highly competitive and strong field from the Zone D. Shelby Cullinan (Texas), Maren Taylor (Texas) Cassie Weil (LSU), Loren Figueroa (Missouri), Margaret Keefer (Minnesota), Rebecca St. Germain (Texas A&M) and Sarah McCrady (Minnesota) will look to increase the number of entries for Zone D for 2014 depending on how they fare at the NCAA Championships.
This is the first time since 1997 a Houston diver will not participate at the NCAA Championships.
