HOUSTON - The Houston swimming and diving team competed in intrasquad duel at the Red and White Meet on Wednesday afternoon inside the Campus Recreation Wellness Center. The white team edged the red team by a score of 200 to 195.
The meet consisted of 12 events including two relays and two dives. Most of the events were sprints as the meet was very high paced and challenged the Cougars to push themselves.
"I learned they were excited to get racing," said head swimming coach Augie Busch. "I've asked them to work on a lot of the little details over the past six weeks and for the most part. Overall I was pretty pleased and pleasantly surprised in a few areas."
Freshman Heather Coutts led the scoring for the White team as she took first place in the 50 free, 100 back, 75 fly and also was a member of the winning 200 medley relay team.
Kim Eeson, another White team member, contributed to the final score by taking first in the 75 free and second in the 150 free while also joining Coutts on the winning medley relay squad.
Lacey Truelove, 2010-2011 Conference USA Diver of the Year, took first for the Red team in both the 1M and 3M dives.
"I thought it went awesome today," said head diving coach Jane Figueiredo. "We're still taking baby steps to get ready for our first dual meets but it's a process. Our attitudes have been great so far and we're having a lot of fun right now."
The Cougars travel to Boston to face Boston University (Oct. 14) and Boston College (Oct. 15) to begin their regular season competition.
