Houston Swimming and Diving Team Defeats North Texas, 151-91

Houston, Texas - University of Houston Sports Information October 11, 2003 For Immediate Release The University of Houston women's swimming and diving team opened the 2003-04 season winning 10 of 13 events for a 151-91 dual-meet victory over North Texas dual inside the new UH CRWC Natatorium. It marks the first event ever held inside the Natatorium.
Houston began the day claiming the two top spots in the 200-meter medley relay. Houston's "A" team had a winning time of 1:51.29, while the "B" team had a time of 1:57.06.
Freshmen Szintia Szanto and Haley Menard opened their careers with victories in two swimming events. Szanto won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:43.67 and the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.07. Menard won the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle races with time of 54.34 and 1:55.58, respectively.
Sophomore Azul Almazan won both diving events. She won the one-meter diving with 253.18 points and the three-meter with 295.13 points.
Kristin Bay won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.71. Stacey Williams won the 200-yard intermediate medley with a time of 2:13.29, and finished in second-place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.60 seconds. Lucile Turpin also won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:09.66.
Houston continues its 2003-04 schedule next Friday, October 17, when the Lady Cougars travel to Austin, Texas for dual meets against the University of Texas and Northern Arizona.
