HOUSTON - The University of Houston swimming and diving team began the 2012-12 season with a win over Florida International Friday evening.

"It was great to see our team get a win on the first meet of the season," said head coach Augie Busch. "The meet was closely contested throughout the day. It came down to the diving and the last (freestyle) relay and that's what put us over the edge. It's always a great source of pride for me when we win that last freestyle relay - that was a great finish for us to see."

Houston won the meet 152-148 over the Panthers.

"We were really engaged as a team the entire meet. Our girls showed a lot of energy and support for one another. It was a team effort we gave today. I'm just proud of the performance they gave out there today."

Results from the meet were not yet available at time of release.
