HOUSTON - Junior Julia Lonnegren and freshman Natasha Burgess finished 1-2 in the 1M diving to lead the Cougars in the second day of the Phill Hansel Cougar Classic. The pair finished in reverse order the previous day in the 3M competition.
Head diving coach Jane Figueiredo enjoys seeing the budding rivalry growing between the two divers as they have alternated between the top-two spots four times already this season.
"If you have a rivalry, you have good competition," said Figueiredo. "I want to see them keep stepping it up. We're going to head to Austin (Dec. 1-3) and will see some great competition so we need to keep getting better."
Kim Eeson was the top finisher for the swimmers as she took third place in the 200 yard freestyle with her fastest time of the year (1:50.23). Moira Fraser and Kimmy Ballo placed 11th and 16th to give Houston 23 points in the event.
Freshman Heather Coutts was the top UH swimmer in the 100 back (9th - 56.47) and fly (17th - 56.39) as she swim her fastest time of the year as well.
Houston stands in 5th place with 304.5 points after two days of competition.
The Cougars return to the pool Saturday 10 a.m. for the morning session and return for the finals at 6 p.m. on the final day of competition at the Phill Hansel Cougar Classic.
