AUSTIN, Texas and OXFORD, Ohio - University of Houston junior Andrea Pa'lmai finished second in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:07.28 to lead the Cougar swimming team during the first day of the 14th annual Miami (Ohio) Invitational at Corwin Nixon Natatorium.

The Budapest, Hungary, native joined junior Sasha Schwendenwein and freshmen Paige Bissett and Andrea Kells on the Cougars' 800-yard freestyle relay team, which started the day with a sixth-place finishing after posting a time of 7:47.66.

The Cougars stood in fifth place with 82 points. Oakland led the team standings after the first day with 125 points and was followed by Florida Gulf Coast (116), Truman State (113) and Wright State (85).

The swimming preliminaries at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational continue at 9 a.m., Friday with the preliminaries of the 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and 400-yard individual medley.

The finals begin at 6 p.m., Friday and include the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard medley relay.

This weekend's meet was the first action for the Cougar swimming team since sweeping Florida International and Indian River Community College in Florida on Nov. 3.

On the diving side, freshman Courtney Forcucci scored 296.95 points to finish fourth and lead the University of Houston divers during the 3-meter diving competition Thursday at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

Forcucci, a native of Fort Mill, S.C., posted 298.05 points to finish third in the preliminaries and join the Top Eight divers in the finals.

Senior captain Ginni van Katwijk scored 247.00 points in the finals to finish seventh. Earlier in the day, the Grootebroek, Netherlands, native posted 299.60 points to rank second after the preliminaries.

Freshman Lacey Truelove scored 238.60 points in the preliminaries to finish 17th.

With only three divers competing at the meet, the Cougars stood in 11th place with 27 points after the first day at the Texas Invitational. No. 4 Arizona led the team standings with 307.5 points and was followed by No. 3 Stanford (288.5) and host No. 16Texas (173)

The Cougars continue at the Texas Invitational at 12:30 p.m., Friday with all three divers competing in the 1-meter preliminaries. The Top Eight divers advance to the finals, beginning at 5:15 p.m., Friday.

The Cougar divers wrap up their stay in Austin at 12:30 p.m., when they take part in the platform competition.
