Swimming and Diving Completes Day One of Texas Invitational

Austin, Texas - The University of Houston swimming and diving team completed the first day of competition at the Texas Invitational on Thursday in Austin, Texas.

Through the first day of competition the Cougars are in fifth place with 51.5 points.

Leading the way for Houston was junior Anastasia Pozdniakova. The Elektrosal, Russia native won the 3-meter diving competition with 380.85 points. Courtney Forcucci followed her in sixth place with 292.10 points.

In the swimming events, Kimberley Eeson finished 23rd in the 500-meter freestyle finals with a time of 5:56.91 and Sasha Schwendenwein was 27th in the 100-meter butterfly finals with a time of 55.10.

In the relays events, the Houston `A' team of Jessica Shamburger, Beccy Hillis, Schwendenwein and Eeson finished 10th in the 400-meter medley relay with a time of 3:50.24. The `B' of Andrea Pa'lmai, Doreen Polotzek, Andrea Kells and Paige Bissett added a 12th place time of 3:58.36.

In the 200-meter freestyle relay, Eeson, Shamburger, Bissett and Schwendenwein combined to finishe 13th with a time of 1:36.80. The `B' team of Kells, Polotzek, Markee Johnson and Anne Stone finished 15th with a time of 1:42.96.
