Strong Showing for Diving at Texas Invitational
Dec. 5, 2011
HOUSTON - The University of Houston diving team competed at the Texas Invitational this past weekend and turned in an outstanding performance in their final competition before the winter break. Houston showed they were in prime form as the three student-athletes (Natasha Burgess, Julia Lonnegren, Torri Olanski) who competed at the meet all qualified for the finals in each diving event that they competed in. Houston and Texas were the only schools that could boast that accomplishment at the 16-team, highly competitive meet. Overall, the Cougars turned in seven NCAA Zone D qualifying marks for good measure as the diving trio had already registered a number of high scores already this year. Julia Lonnegren scored 321.75 to take first place in the 1-meter competition. The junior has been outstanding in the one-meter competition all year as she earned her fourth first-place finish in the event. Freshmen Natasha Burgess (282.70) and Torri Olanski (264.05) took fifth and eighth place in the event. Additionally, all three scores were above NCAA Zone Diving qualifying standards. The diving trio finished 4-5-6 in the 1-meter as Burgess edged Lonnegren (302.35) and Olanski (289.25) for top Cougar honor with her best-mark of the year in the event at 311.35. Lonnegren (255.60) and Olanski (236.55) took fourth and sixth in the platform scoring high marks in the event on the season and both reaching NCAA Zone Diving qualifying standards. UP NEXT
