    Austin, Texas -- The University of Houston swimming and diving team finished sixth at the Texas Invitational scoring 172.5 points at the three-day invite over the weekend.

    Leading the way for the Cougars in the final day of competition was Sasha Schwendenwein. The South Africa native turned in a sixth place finish of 1:58.72 in the 200-meter butterfly finals. She was trailed by Andrea Kells and Paige Bissett, who finished 27th and 31st, respectively.

    Also finishing in the top three was Lacey Truelove. The Ontario native notched a second place performance in the platform diving event with 277.0 points.

    Andrea Pa'lmai turned in a 14th place performance in the 1650-meter freestyle with a time of 16:57.30. Kimberley Eeson also finished 21st and Beccy Hillis finished 23rd. Also turning in performances in the event were Olga Bordatcheva (28th), Danica Lubbers (31st), Rachel Holcomb (32nd) and Markee Johnson (33rd).

    Pa'lmai added a 22nd place finish of 2:02.33 in the 200-meter backstroke finals while Jessica Shamburger was 25th (2:03.43) and Paige Bissett was 32nd (2:08.35). Hillis notched a 19th place finish in the 200-meter breaststroke finals to wrap-up competition in the individual events for the Cougars with a time of 2:19.97. Bordatcheva and Natalie Newcomb followed in 29th and 32nd place, respectively.

     

     

    In the relay events, the Houston `A' team of Schwendenwein, Eeson, Bissett and Pa'lmai turned in a 13th place time of 3:29.30. The `B' team of Doreen Polotzek, Bordatcheva, Hillis and Shamburger finished in 16th with a time of 3:41.09.

    Houston will next be in the pool when they travel to Puerto Rico for the Puerto Rico Invitational on Jan. 3 as part of the team's winter training. Following that, they will compete against Texas A&M on Jan. 16.
