AUSTIN – The University of Houston Swimming and Diving team collected a pair of top-15 finishes on the second day of action at the TYR Pro Swim Series – Austin.
Houston got out to a strong start on the second day of action at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center. Eleanna Koutsouveli and Laura Laderoute opened competition, each posting top-40 finishes in the 100 Backstroke. Koutsouveli paced the Cougars with a 22nd-place finish in the event, posting a time of 1:03.64. Laderoute closed out the 200 Backstroke prelims with a time of 1:04.14 for 32nd-place.
The Cougars highest finish of prelims would come by way of a 10th-place finish in the 100 Breaststroke by sophomore Peyton Kondis. Kondis earned her first top-10 finish of the weekend with a time of 1:10.40. The team captain would go on to finish 11th in the event after closing out finals in a time of 1:10.18. Angeliki Mavrantza finished 21st in the prelims with a time of 1:11.79 and was followed by Gaby Jimenez Peon in 43rd-place with a time of 1:15.38.
In an event with over 100 entries, Zarena Brown and Ksenia Yuskova would lead the charge for Houston in the 100 Freestyle turning in a pair of top-50 finishes. Yuskova finished in 32nd-place with a time of 57.60 and was followed by Brown in 43rd-place with a time of 57.92.
Koutsouveli, Laderoute and Jimenez would make their second appearance in the water for the 200 IM. Koutsouveli earned her second trip to the finals after placing 22nd in prelims with a time of 2:19.07. The junior would earned her highest finish of the day with an 11th-place finish in finals after touching the wall in 2:18.33. Laderoute closed out prelims with a time of 2:21.95 for 38th-place, followed by Jimenez in 53rd-place with a time of 2:24.16.
Houston will return to action tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. for the final day of competition at the TYR Pro Swim Series – Austin. Prelims will begin at 9 a.m. and will be followed by finals, slated for 5:40 p.m.
