    Houston Earns Wins Over Rice, Tulane

    Houston Leads Rice, Tulane After Strong Day One

    Fort Worth, TX -- The University of Houston women's swim team claimed third place among a field of five teams at the TCU Classic held January 12-13 in Fort Worth. The Cougars were paced by the junior tandem of Elissa Nelson and Stacey Ebeling. Sophomore Jessica Blake meanwhile provided a scoring punch in a host of events.

    Nelson finished second among 10 athletes in the 500-yard freestyle, posting a time of 5:08.36. Ebeling was second in the 100 freestyle with a mark of 54.35. Blake placed second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.53), third in both the 200 IM (2:14.52) and 400 IM (4:42.98) and fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:00.47). She also swam the lead leg of the Cougars' 200 medley relay. UH sophomore Falon Hopkins was third in the 100 butterfly (59.70).

    Houston will next face Texas A&M on the road in College Station on Friday, January 19. The Cougars will then host Louisiana-Monroe the following day at the UH Natatorium in the final home meet of the season.
