Swimming and Diving Returns Home For Two-Day Meet
Jan. 28, 2010
HOUSTON - The University of Houston swimming and diving team returns to the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium for the first time since November when they welcome Rice, Tulane and LSU to the pool for a two-day meet on Jan. 29-30.
The home meet begins a stretch of four events in Houston for the Cougars that will end with the Conference USA Championship on Feb. 24-27.
The Cougars will look to bounce back from two losses against North Texas and SMU on the road last weekend. Despite coming up short in team scoring, Houston notched five individual wins against the Mean Green. Freshman Reka Kovacs recorded two, sophomore Beccy Hillis had one and senior diver Anastasia Pozdniakova swept the diving events.
Pozdniakova extended her win streak to six in both diving events the following day against SMU. For her performance she was named the C-USA Diver of the Week. Also turning in wins against the Mustangs were Hillis and sophomore Kimberley Eeson.
This weekend Houston faces off against Rice for the second time in the 2009-10 season. They defeated the Owls earlier in the season at the Phill Hansel Duals. Tulane and LSU each made an appearance during the fall season at the CRWC Natatorium for the Cougar Classic Fall Invitational.
The meet will begin on Friday at 5 p.m. with nine events scheduled to take place. Competition will continue on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the final nine events taking place. Live results will be available for the meet. They can be accessed by going to UHCougars.com and going to the swimming and diving schedule page.
A complete recap of the weekend's events will also be available on the website.
Following the dual this weekend, Houston will close out the regular season against Texas A&M on Feb. 5 and the Second Annual Sprint for the Cure Meet against Texas will be on Feb. 10. The Cougars will then host the C-USA Championships on Feb. 24-27.
