HOUSTON - For the third week in a row, University of Houston senior diver Julia Lonnegren has been named the Conference USA Diver of the Week. Lonnegren led all divers in scoring at the LSU quad meet over the weekend with a win in the 1M and runner up finishes in the 3M and platform.
Against the host Tigers and Tulane divers, Lonnegren won the 1M (289.45) beating out teammate sophomore Natasha Burgess by 3.75 points. Lonnegren scored a season best (274.80) on the platform and came within 0.5 points of a season-best mark in the 3M (323.30) as she posted the two runner up finishes.
All the scores registered by Lonnegren exceeded the NCAA Zone standards, with the Zone meet being hosted at the University of Houston Campus & Recreation March 11-13.
Cougar divers have captured 76 of a possible 131 weekly honors since the award began in 2001. This season, Houston has grabbed four of the seven Diver of the Week accolades (Lonnegren, 3; Natasha Burgess, 1).
With the three-peat, Lonnegren also becomes the fourth C-USA diver to win the award three weeks in a row, joining fellow Cougar greats Anastasisa Podzdniakova (Jan. 20, Feb. 3 & 10, 2009) Yulia Pakahalina (Jan. 14, 21 & 28, 2002).
This is the 10th Diver of the Week award in Lonnegren's career.
Houston heads to College Station, Texas, for a dual meet against the Texas A&M Aggies in their final competition of the regular season. Following this weekend's competition, the Cougars host the C-USA Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 20-23 at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center.
