Fifteen Student-Athletes Receive Conference USA Academic Medal

More than 160 Student-Athletes Named to C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll

July 26, 2012

HOUSTON - The University of Houston swimming and diving program earned the Spring 2012 Scholar All-America Team Award, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced earlier this month.

The CSCAAA honor recognizes teams that maintain above a 3.0 GPA while the Cougars compiled a 3.19 cumulative team GPA during head swimming coach Augie Busch's inaugural season.

"I am very proud of the effort that the team has puts forth in the classroom, the pool, and everywhere in between," Busch said. "I have asked a lot of these girls over this past year and we have seen some greats improvements across the board.

"Besides thanking the girls for buying into the program, I have to give a huge amount of credit to the academic staff. We have an amazing support structure for our student-athletes to succeed academically so credit for this accomplishment goes to the academic staff."

"We're in a great position with this program right now and I know I speak for the entire team when I say we are ready for the fall season to get here and continue to build upon what we have created."

Junior Reka Kovacs was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team earlier this year. Junior Marissa Blumenthal highlighted the academic achievements with her perfect 4.0 GPA as pre-pharmacy major.
