HOUSTON – Houston sophomore Zarena Brown help the Cougars earn five top finishes this past weekend in duals against SMU and North Texas, earning National Swimmer of the Week honors from CollegeSwimming.com.
Brown opened the weekend with three first-place finishes against SMU, starting with the 200-yard Freestyle. Brown posting a time of 1:48.86, her best this season.
In the 500-yard Freestyle, the sophomore swam by the competition, notching a season-best 4:54.79 for first-place.
Brown helped Houston to a top finish in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, helping the Cougars finish in 3:28.16
The sophomore earned two more first-place finishes against North Texas the following day. Brown helped Houston to a 3:48.09 top finish in the 400-yard Medley Relay as the fourth leg. Her second top finish came in the 100-yard Freestyle when Brown turned in a time of 52.10.
The honor marks the second weekly honor for Houston and the first of Brown’s career.
“I am excited for Zarena earning this incredible honor and hopefully this is just a step in the right direction for her,” said Head Coach Ryan Wochomurka. “Like the rest of our team she has bold goals and we are all working hard towards those. Hopefully we see the fruits of that come February and March.”
Houston will head to the Colorado for a Nov. 3 meeting with Colorado State and Nov. 4 matchup with Northern Colorado.
