PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Houston Swimming and Diving Team caps off a record-setting weekend with a pair of American Athletic Conference weekly honors. Senior Ksenia Yuskova was tabbed American Swimmer of the Week and senior Micaela Bouter earned American Diver of the week.
For the third time in program history Houston sweeps The American weekly honors. Yuskova notched two program records and five NCAA B-Cuts to go along with the eighth-best time nationally in the 200 Freestyle (1:44.88) in her final Phill Hansel Invitational. The senior posted five podium finishes for the Cougars, including program records in the 100 Free (49.39) and 200 Free. Yuskova helped Houston to a pair of podium finishes and program records in both the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:19.47) and the 800 Freestyle Relay (7:13.08). The award marks Yuskova’s first weekly award.
“Well deserved” said Head Swimming and Diving Coach Ryan Wochomurka. “Right now she sits at number eight in the country and it’s exciting as we move forward into March.”
Bouter turned in a pair of first-place finishes in the 1-Meter (305.00) and 3-Meter (342.15) springboard events, finishing fifth in the Platform after posting a career-best 214.20 in prelims and 193.80 in the finals. The award will mark the 10th of Bouter’s career.
“I am very excited for Micaela,” said Houston Diving Coach Bob Gunter. “She continues to push herself and improve, as well as set high goals for the remainder of the season.”
Houston will return to action later this month at the AT&T Winter Nationals in Columbus, Ohio.
