Bouter Qualifies for Commonwealth Games

Dec. 18, 2017

DURBAN, South Africa – Senior diver Micaela Bouter used two first-place finishes and a second-place finish this past weekend to qualify for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Bouter opened competition on Friday where she and Nicole Gillis of Arkansas turned in a first-place finish in the 3-Meter Synchronized. The duo finished the event with an overall score of 286.45.

The following day, Bouter put on a strong performance in both the 1-Meter and 3-Meter Springboard events. The South Africa native earned top honors in the 3-Meter after posting a personal-best score of 315.30. Bouter would close out competition with a second-place finish in the 1-Meter tallying up 270.70 points.

“We are really excited for Micaela to qualify for this high level international event”, said Head Diving Coach Bob Gunter. “She has been working very hard this fall to put up her best performances in her final year at U of H.  These results are a testament to the strides she has made.”

Only the top team in the 3-Meter Synchronized and the top-two finishers in the 1-Meter and 3-Meter earn berths to the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The games are slated to be held on the Gold Coast next year from April 4-15 and welcome over 6,000 athletes from over 60 Commonwealth nations.
