LAKE CHARLES, La. - The University of Houston opened the 2004 season Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 win over the McNeese State Cowgirls.

The Cougars picked up their first victory of the year on Saturday their 5-2 win over the Cowgirls. Houston's doubles teams took all three of their matches while the Cougars took four of their six singles matches.

In singles play Biljana Dimovska won her number one singles match 6-4, 6-3 over Noelina Furno of McNeese, Miranda Foley defeated Yolandie Buekes 6-1, 6-0 in the number two spot, Yolandi Terblanche beat Magali Risoleo 6-3, 6-1 ant number three while Kami Miller beat Marina Gando 6-4, 7-5 in the number six spot. Hanaa Rhazi fell in her number four singles match 3-6, 6-0, 10-6 to Madeleine Hakensson and Diana Martin lost 7-6, 6-3 to Urska Dobersek in the number five match.

Houston's No. 1 singles pairing of Dimovska and Foley defeated McNeese's Furno and Buekes 8-3, Rhazi and Karine Urbin won 8-6 over Dobersek and Hakensson in the number two spot and Terblanche and Miller grabbed an 8-3 win over the team of Risoleo and Gando in the number three spot.
