Houston tennis downs UAB for first C-USA win of the season

HOUSTON - Led by strong singles performances and a doubles sweep, the University of Houston Tennis team improved to 4-1 on the season and 1-0 in Conference USA play Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 victory over the UAB Blazers at the John E. Hoff varsity courts. Houston's No.1 player Biljana Dimovska remained unbeaten in singles play for the season with 6-2, 6-3 win over Femke deBoer while Miranda Foley knocked off Annemieke Elsholz 6-3, 6-4. In the number three spot Yolandi Terblanche cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Marrit Jansma; Kami Miller picked up a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 win over UAB's Nadia Dellarciprete while the match between Houston's Diana Martin and the Blazers Samrin Tanzeem was retired because the Cougars had already won the match. The lone win for UAB came in the match between Karine Urbin and Julia von Samson in which von Simon won 6-2, 6-2.
Houston put UAB in an early hole, winning all three doubles matches to begin the match 1-0. At No. 1 doubles, to Houston's Biljana Dimovska and Miranda Foley defeated Femke de Boer and Annemieke Elsholz 8-2. In the No. 2 doubles match, the tandem of Karine Urbin and Diana Martin knocked off UAB's Nadia Dellarciprete and Marrit Jansma 8-6. The Cougars made it a sweep at No. 3 doubles when Yolandi Terblanche and Kami Miller beat UAB's Samrin Tanzeem and von Samson, 8-3.
Houston tennis will be in action again Saturday when they take on LSU in Baton Rouge La. at noon. |
