Houston Tennis Drops UT-Pan American, 6-1
Feb. 11, 2011
HOUSTON - The University of Houston tennis team cruised to a 6-1 victory over UT-Pan American Friday afternoon at John E. Hoff Courts to improve to 4-2 overall this season.
"We came out and played extremely well in doubles, especially at the top position with a team that's never played together," said head coach John Severance. "Our results in singles just shows our depth, especially how we were without Bryony (Hunter) in the top of the lineup. Our top three struggled today and we still managed to win two of those matches, but we'll definitely have to play better tomorrow."
The Cougar duo of Maja Kazimieruk and Joanna Kacprzyk were knotted at two games apiece against Malin Anderson and Dana Nazarova before winning six-consecutive games to clinch the doubles point with an 8-2 victory.
Kacprzyk and Kazimieruk made quick work at the No. 5 and No. 4 singles positions, respectively, shutting out their opponents to clinch the win for Houston.
Pozzan followed with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Anderson at the No. 2 spot, while Fraser improved to 2-0 this season with a 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 win against Beguelin at the top position.
The Cougars return to action against Texas State at 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Hoff Courts.
