HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Women’s Tennis team remained undefeated with a 7-0 win against New Mexico State on Friday, at Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.

With the victory Houston continued its best start to a season since winning 13-consecutive matches to open the 1990 spring season.

Houston dominated in doubles against New Mexico State. Lauren Alter and Alison Mills raced to a 6-0 win in what was their most impressive match so far this spring season.

Quickly after, Tsveta Dimitrova and Sveva Mazzari won their match 6-2 to clinch the doubles point for the Cougars. Their serving and strong net play propelled them to the win.

Constandena Nicolaou and Ana Glumac’s match was stopped early due to the Cougars clinching the doubles point. They led 5-2 and were just a few points away from the win.

Dimitrova led off singles with a 6-1, 6-4 win. Her consistent rallies led her to the straight set victory.

Mazzari followed suit with a 6-3, 6-0 win of her own. She has yet to lose a singles match all season and is now 8-0 in spring play.

Senior Alison Mills returned to her winning ways with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Helena Colvee. She continues to impress in singles this spring season with a 5-3 record.

Nicolaou took down her opponent 6-2, 6-1 in a match in which she dominated the rallies. Similar to Mazzari, Nicolaou has not lost a singles match this season in eight matchups.

Alter rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 win over one of the Aggies best players Lindsay Harlas. Alter, who entered ranked No. 112 in the ITA tennis rankings is among the three Cougars who have yet to lose a singles match.

Glumac completed the overall match sweep with a 6-4, 6-4 win. She trailed late in the first set and rallied back to secure the win and keep the Cougars undefeated.

The Cougars continue spring play against Rice, on Saturday, at the George R. Brown Tennis Center. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
