Women's Tennis Back in Action this Weekend

HOUSTON - Houston Tennis made it a clean sweep over the weekend as the Cougars completed a three-match sweep over three Louisiana schools over Friday and Saturday competition.

Fresh off a 5-2 win over Louisiana Tech on Friday, the Cougars won 5-2 over Southeastern Louisiana and then 5-1 over Louisiana-Lafayette.

"Right now I feel like we are not playing great tennis, but we are playing with a lot of heart," said Houston head coach John Severance. "It's nice to come away from a weekend with three matches in two days and win them all."

With the win, the Cougars improve to 8-2 on 2005 with three teams ranked in the top 50 on the upcoming schedule.

Against Southeastern Louisiana, the Cougars claimed the doubles point without dropping a match, winning all three doubles matches by a score of 8-5.

In singles, junior Kami Miller and Yolandi Terblanche rolled to easy victories along with freshman Briane Bateup, while senior Bilijana Dimovska battled through a three-set tiebreaker match at the No. 1 spot to earn the win.

Facing Louisiana-Lafayette in the afternoon, Houston claimed five of the six singles matches to win the match without needing to play the doubles.

Dimovska extended her unbeaten streak to 8-0 in singles play while Terblanche, Miller and Bateup all recorded 3-0 records on the weekend with their wins against the Raging Cajuns.

The Cougars get the next week-and-a-half off before they hit the courts against Texas A&M at home on Thursday, March 3.
