Houston Tennis Suffers Setback at Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Houston women's tennis team suffered its first shutout of the season on Friday afternoon, falling to Air Force by a score of 7-0 indoors at the United States Air Force Academy. The Cougars fell to 8-4 overall this spring while the Falcons improved to 8-4 on the season.
Air Force jumped out to a 1-0 lead after taking the top two doubles matches before the Houston tandem of Maja Kazimieruk and Celia Fraser salvaged the round with an 8-5 victory over Tiffany Tran and Mary Meyers, improving to 8-2 together in dual play.
The Falcons claimed the first four singles matches in straight sets and Tran clinched the win for Air Force with a 6-3, 7-6 defeat of Fraser at the No. 2 position.
Houston's Elena Kordolaimi forced three sets at the top spot, falling to Christine Molina by a score of 7-6, 4-6, 6-0, while Jo Garvey fell at the No. 6 position to Meyers, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(7), to close out the match.
The Cougars return home for just their second contest in the past nine matches inside the friendly confines of John E. Hoff Courts on Sunday when they play host to UMKC at 11 a.m.
