Houston Secures Fourth Sweep of the Season

ABILENE – The Houston Cougar Women’s Tennis team improved to 11-1 this spring season after a 4-0 sweep over Abilene Christian, on Friday.

Ana Glumac and Constandena Nicolaou started off doubles play with a resounding 6-1 win over Jordan Henry and Ileana Mocciola. They picked up their fifth win of the season in the match.

Tsveta Dimitrova and Sveva Mazzari clinched the doubles point for the Cougars after winning 6-3 over Lucile Pothier and Whitney Williams. The duo is 8-1 this season in doubles play.

Alison Mills and Lauren Alter’s match was cut short due to Houston clinching the doubles point, with the Cougars down 5-3 at that time.

Mazzari started out singles with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Whitney Williams that was competitive the entire match. She remains undefeated in singles play on the season with a 12-0 record.

Glumac clinched the singles point and the overall match with a 6-4, 6-1 win against Ileana Mocciola. Glumac picked up her third-straight victory with the result.

Dimitrova also won in a very close match 6-4, 7-6 (9-7). Dimitrova earned her tenth singles win with the victory over Pothier today.

There were three matches still in progress when the Cougars swept the overall match. Alter was down 7-6, 3-6, 1-2 against Autumn Crossnoe. Nicolaou was down 6-3, 3-6, 2-3 against Nini Memishishi when her match was called. Lastly, Laura Bernardos was trailing 6-3, 1-6, 1-5 against Jordan Henry when play was stopped.



The Cougars travel to face another road test against North Texas in Denton on Saturday, March 3. First serve is set for noon.
