Netters Back In the Win Column
March 12, 2005
HOUSTON - The University of Houston tennis team got back on to the winning track this weekend with a convincing 6-1 victory over in-state foe Texas A&M at Corpus Christi. For the Cougars, the win snaps a three-match lossing streak that was the result of playing three highly ranked opponents in Texas A&M, SMU and Baylor. Houston began the match with a clean sweep in the double pairings, as all three Cougar duos made quick work of their Islander counterparts. Senior Biljana Dimovska and junior Yolandi Terblanche extended their unbeaten streak to 6-0 with an 8-5 win at the No. 1 spot. Also dominating their opponents were senior Diana Martin and junior Kami Miller who easily won a 10-minute match with an 8-0 score. In singles, the Cougars claimed five of the six matches, with Dimovska dropping the only Cougar point at the No. 1 spot. Four of the five wins came without much trouble for Houston as freshman Briana Bateup won 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot, Martin walked away with a 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, Miller won the No. 4 in 6-1, 6-1 fashion, and Reimer won 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot. Freshman Tiffany McLoughlin dropped her first set at No. 6, but bounced back to earn the comeback victory in a 4-6, 6-1, 10-1 match. Houston will next head out to Florida for three matches during the Spring Break.
