FULLERTON, Calif. - The University of Houston tennis team continued its winning ways Thursday with a 6-1 win over Colorado State.

The doubles point was a hard fought affair, but the Cougars came out on top, winning two out of the three matches. The first win came from junior Joanna Kacprzyk and freshman Maja Kazimieruk after defeating Lauren Mulhern and VeronikaWojakowska, 8-5, in the No. 3 spot

Freshmen Bryony Hunter and Alexandra Pickerill lost to Colorado State's Laura Neal and Caitlin Fluegge, 8-5, in the No. 1 spot, but the doubles point was clinched at the No. 2 spot, as juniors Laura Ring and Elena Kazakova beat Tori Arneson and Melissa Holzinger, 8-5.

With a 1-0 lead, the Cougars dominated in singles, as Ring in the No. 4 spot comfortably defeated Wojakowska 6-2, 6-0 and Kazimieruk beat Melhern 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 5 spot.

The Rams hit back with a 6-1, 6-3 win in the No. 6 singles match, as senior Neila Starratt fell to Holzinger, but Houston clinched the match at the top position, when Hunter defeated Neal 6-3, 6-4.

Kacprzyk defeated Arneson, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot, and Kazakova rounded off the win against Fluegge, 7-5, 6-4 in the No. 3 match.

The win improves Houston's season record to 8-4.

UP NEXT
Houston continues its road trip in Colombia, Mo., on Saturday at 11 a.m., as it faces West Virginia and again on Sunday when its take on Missouri at 10 a.m.
