HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Women’s Tennis team fell 4-0 to American Athletic Conference opponent USF on Sunday, at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles play opened with the Cougars forfeiting at the No. 3 position due to injuries to freshmen Tsveta Dimitrova and Cristina Rovira. Houston grabbed a win at the No. 1 doubles position after junior Sveva Mazzari and freshman Lauren Alter cruised to a 6-2 win over Juliana Cardoso and Olga Martinez. The victory was the squad’s team-leading eighth this season.
The Cougars were also forced to begin singles play with a pair of forfeits at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions due to Dimitrova and Rovira’s injuries.
USF picked up the decisive point in the match at the No. 4 singles position where Dzenga defeated Nicolaou. Dzenga won the match in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.
A pair of Cougars led at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions when the match was halted. Respectively, Mazzari led Ana Roman 6-2, 2-2, while Alter held a 6-2, 4-2 advantage over Cardoso. At the No. 3 singles position, Glumac trailed Vanja Klaric 6-4, 3-0 at the conclusion of play.
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
The Cougars wrap the 2017 regular season when they host Stephen F. Austin at 2 p.m., on Thursday, April 13, at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility. Houston will then travel to Orlando, Fla., to compete at the American Athletic Conference Championship from April 19-22.

Gifts to the Center Court Club provide financial support directly to the University of Houston Tennis program for needs beyond the program's operating budget. Revenue generated from the Center Court Club is used at the discretion of the head coach for program enhancements. Membership in the Center Court Club is annual and requires a minimum $100 gift.

For a minimum gift of $100, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball.
For a minimum gift of $500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation and a stadium blanket.
For a minimum gift of $1,000, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket and a lesson from the coach.
For a minimum gift of $2,500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket, a lesson from the coach and a group lesson from the coaching staff.
